NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has observed that children should not be sent to school at a very young age. The apex court made the observation while considering the appeal filed by the parents questioning the raising of the minimum age for admission to class One in Kendriya Vidyalaya to six years. The Supreme Court, which upheld the Delhi High Court's earlier dismissal of the parents' plea, dismissed the appeal of the parents.
The petitioners had argued that changing the age limit without prior notice was a violation of students' right to school admission. The central government's lawyer pointed out that 21 states have implemented the six-year age limit as part of the national education policy.
The Supreme Court said that sending children to school at a very young age can affect their mental health.
