THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will launch 1150 buses in a year to increase its revenue. For this, it will purchase 400 CNG buses and 50 electric buses. In addition, the corporation will also hire 700 private buses.

The project has been approved by the Finance Department. The finance department has sanctioned `50 crore for the purchase of buses.

On April 18, Kerala Kaumudi published a report stating that revenue was not increasing due to the non-resumption of services which were stopped during the Covid period. The approval to purchase the buses came after this.

The validity of 704 buses operating superclass service will end soon. These will be changed to ordinary service. Buses will be then hired for the superclass services. Between 300 and 350 services get disrupted daily as employees absent themselves without informing in advance. Strict action will be taken to avoid such a situation. ATOs will be made responsible for ensuring the smooth running of services.

Authorities are considering increasing the eight-hour duty to 12 hours and to provide additional pay and incentives for additional duty. This will be discussed with the trade unions. The aim is to increase the revenue by operating more services during rush hours.
