THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The BJP state leadership is already gearing up to focus its attention on the constituencies of Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta and Thrissur aiming to win parliamentary seats in Kerala, ahead of the next Lok Sabha polls to be held in two years.

The party will use former MP and actor Suresh Gopi’s stardom for the purpose. Suresh Gopi is currently active in Thrissur with the knowledge of the party leadership. Moreover, the actor will be actively present in Thiruvananthapuram and Pathanamthitta as well.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah was scheduled to visit Kerala on Friday to guide the preparations. However, the visit was postponed due to official reasons. Several BJP-RSS leaders will conduct a detailed meeting with Amit Shah, who will arrive before May 15. The new visit date will be informed later, said BJP state president K Surendran.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) had increased its vote share extensively in the legislative assembly polls in 2016. BDJS’ influence was an important factor in the growth. Despite holding on to some extent in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP's and NDA’s performance fell behind in the last assembly polls. There has been a decline in voters’ support from all categories. The vote share went down by more than two percent and seats were lost. This time, the party is formulating strategies focusing on hopeful areas such as the constituencies of Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta and Thrissur.
