AHMEDABAD: The Dashboard system, implemented by the Gujarat government, has gained wide attention in the country. The system was formulated to resolve the complaints of common man. It aims to make government officials more responsible and has been successful to a great extent.
The project was initiated in 2019 by Vijay Rupani, then chief minister of Gujarat. It was designed in such a way that all the information related to the state’s governance are readily made available to the chief minister at his fingertips. That is, the chief minister can sit at his office and evaluate the projects being implemented in the state as well as the performance of officers, at any time. He can also suggest necessary changes on noticing any problem. It is assessed that the Dashboard project is the reason for the provision of quality treatment for patients in various hospitals in the state, during the pandemic period. As the quality of the project became clear, many, including the Administrative Reforms Departments of the central government, have shown interest in learning about the Dashboard.
With the implementation of the project, the state has been able to accomplish a number of achievements such as staff reforms, implementation of major projects, coordination of staff activities and personal monitoring. Also, it has reduced the level of corruption in the state.
Recently, the Dashboard project was mentioned during a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Following which, the chief minister had directed the chief secretary to submit a report after studying the project in detail. As a result, a high level team has left for Gujarat from Kerala to learn about the study the Gujarat model of development.
