BHOJPUR: Three people, including a groom, were injured in a celebratory gunfire at a wedding. The incident took place in Bhojpur district of Bihar. The 18-year-old groom Ravi Shankar Sharma and two of his relatives were injured. Firing to the air is common during tilak ceremony in wedding. The accident was caused by a pellet while firing.
The three were rushed to a hospital for treatment. A locally made gun was used for firing. The others injured are a12-year-old boy and the groom's uncle. The wedding is scheduled for May 2. The incident happened during the pre-wedding celebrations.
Gunfire at weddings is prohibited by law. The current penalty is two years imprisonment, a fine of Rs 1 lakh or both. But such celebrations are still taking place in states including Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
