THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Power consumption was curtailed in Kerala, from 6 pm to 11 pm by reducing voltage and imposing unannounced load-shedding. This is due to low power generation at about 40 thermal power plants in the country following the coal shortage.

NTPC is trying to collect fuel for Kozhikode Nallalam Diesel Thermal Power Station and to schedule power from Kayamkulam Thermal Power Station. The KSEB board meeting held on Wednesday has decided to restrict the sale of outside power and to continue the sale if more thermal power becomes available, considering the possibility of less rain.

Power consumption in the state hit an all-time high on Wednesday. It has reached 90.34 million units. For the first time, consumption crossed 90 million units.
