THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran said the state council had approved the move to bring youth into the party.

"It was decided to address the generational and gender differences in the party. Mandalam meetings will be held in June and July. The age limit for party office bearers has been fixed at 75 years. The age limit for district secretaries and constituency secretaries in the lower committees has been fixed at 65 years. About 40 per cent of the members of the party's district council and the state council must be under 50 years of age. Assistant secretaries must be younger than the secretary. One of them must be under 60 years of age. Generational change will help strengthen the CPI. The constitution will be amended for this. 15% of party members should be women. Women will be made part of the leadership. Marginalized Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe Minorities will be included to the maximum. These decisions will be implemented from the mandalam meetings, "Kanam said.

Steps will be taken to complete the construction works of the memorial of former state secretary CK Chandrappan. It will cost Rs 10 crore. Five crores have been spent on the construction of the memorial at Kulakkada in Kottarakkara taluk. The cooperation of the people will be sought to complete the rest of the work
