VARKALA: A woman and her two and a half-year-old child were found hanging in the house of her husband. The deceased have been identified as Kallumala native Sharanya (22) and her daughter Nakshatra. Both were found hanging in the bedroom of the house.

The incident came to light at around 5.30 pm on Thursday. Sharanya is the wife of Sujith, a private bus driver. They got married 4 years ago. Police said that Sujith used to quarrel with his wife frequently after getting drunk. Sharanya had a quarrel with Sujith on Thursday afternoon as well. Neighbours said that Sujith left the house that afternoon after getting drunk. Upon returning home, he found that the house was locked from the inside. Following this, he broke into the house and found that Sharanya and the child were hanging in the bedroom. Soon, the locals called the police, who reached the spot and took Sujith into custody.

The inquest proceedings were completed on Friday morning in the presence of the Varkala tehsildar. The bodies have been shifted to the Parippally Medical College Hospital.
