KOTTAYAM: The police have taken into custody former MLA P C George for his controversial remarks against Muslims. Addressing a programme organised as part of the Ananthapuri Hindu Maha Sammelan in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday, George made some vicious comments on the Muslim community. Following widespread complaints, cops from the Fort police station in Thiruvananthapuram went to his house in Erattupetta in Kottayam and took him into custody.
Police have left for the capital city with George. His arrest will be registered after questioning him. He will then be produced before a magistrate. P K Firos, general secretary of the Youth League, had asked why George had not been taken into police custody despite his hate speech. The Youth League lodged a complaint with the chief minister and the DGP.
Firos alleged that throughout his speech he had racially abused the Muslim community and deliberately tried to create communal divisions. The complaint said George had alleged that tea laced with drops causing impotence were sold in Muslim restaurants to turn people infertile in a bid to seize control of the country.
The CPM and the congress also condemned the hate speech. Meantime, George’s son Shaun George in a Facebook post tendered apology for his father’s remarks.
