MALAPPURAM: Eight people, who ate mandi biryani from a hotel in Vengara, have been admitted to hospital following food poisoning. All of them had eaten mandi biriyani from Mandi House restaurant near Vengara. The health department said the poisoning came from chicken meat in the biriyani. Health workers shut down the restaurant following the incident.

The incident took place two days ago. All the eight people who suffered from food poisoning sought treatment at a private hospital. Authorities said they had left the hospital.

Meanwhile, the preliminary post-mortem report of Cheruvathur native Devanandana revealed that food poisoning led to her death. However, the hospital superintendent clarified that this can be confirmed only after the results of the samples sent for testing come along.

The police have also named the owner of the hotel, where the Shawarma was made as an accused in the case. Kalikkadavu native Kunhahammed, owner of Ideal Food Point in Cheruvathur, has been named the fourth accused in the case.
