LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath arrived at his hometown, after 28 years, to attend a family ceremony. The chief minister, who arrived at his ancestral village, visited his mother and sought her blessings. He touched his mother’s feet and then gifted her a shawl. The chief minister’s mother was visibly very emotional to meet her son. Yogi visited his village for his nephew’s hair tonsure ceremony, scheduled for Wednesday.

Yogi met his mother Savitri Devi at his ancestral village in Uttarakhand’s Panchur. His father had died in April 2020, during the first Covid wave. However, Yogi, who was then UP chief minister, did not attend the ceremony. “I had the ardent wish to get a glimpse of my father at the final moment. However, following a sense of duty towards the state's 23 crore people during the Covid-19 pandemic, I could not do so”, Yogi said.

Yogi Adityanath was born in Pauri’s Panchur village. He had studied from Class I to Class IX at a school in Chamkotkhal. During the visit, he left for his village after unveiling a statue of his spiritual guru Mahant Avaidyanath at a college on Tuesday. The chief minister, who will reach Haridwar on Wednesday, will inaugurate numerous projects and is expected to leave for Lucknow by evening.
