ALAPPUZHA: 12 Congress activists and 2 policemen were injured after a clash broke out between Congress and CPI activists near the Nooranad Congress block office in Charummoodu. Following the clash, a large group of CPI activists reached the area and vandalised the Congress Mavelikkara block office. The Congress then called for a hartal on Thursday in Charummoodu. The hartal will be observed in five panchayats. The hartal has been called in Nooranad, Palamel, Chunakkara, Thamarakulam and Thazakkara panchayats.

The incident took place near the Nooranadu block office of the Congress and the house of the block office president Sharafuddin in the vicinity. CPI activists and Congress activists gathered in the area and clashed in the presence of the DYSP-led police force. Police were unable to repel the two. Twelve Congress workers and two policemen were injured in the clash.
