NEW DELHI: A report released by the World Health Organization has stated that 1.5 crore people have died as a result of Covid. As per the report, the actual death toll was about three times higher than what was currently recorded by various countries. It also stated that 47 lakh people died of Covid in India.
According to figures released by various countries, 54 lakh people have died due to Covid so far. The WHO released its report denying these figures.
The WHO report said that almost half of the deaths that until now had not been counted were in India. The report suggests that 47 lakh people died there as a result of the pandemic, mainly during a huge surge in May and June 2021. The Indian government, however, puts its death toll for the January 2020-December 2021 period far lower: about 4,80,000.
