THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KSRTC workers have announced a 24-hour strike from midnight today in protest against the non-payment of last month's salary. The Transport Democratic Federation, AITUC, and Kerala State Transport Employees Sangh made the announcement following the failure of negotiations with management. Kerala State Road Transport Employees Association (CITU) will not take part in the strike.
Meanwhile, the management has declared dies-non to counter the strike. CMD Biju Prabhakar, in his order, said that salary of those failing to report for work on Friday will be deducted.
The unions said they were going on strike after realizing that management made the employees starve on Vishu and Easter and salaries for the current month looked unlikely. The striking workers said that there is no sincere effort on the part of the state government to pay the salaries and that the passengers should understand that they have to go on strike due to their situation.
