NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has ruled that Muslims from other states are not eligible for the posts reserved for Muslims in Kerala. The Supreme Court has upheld the Kerala High Court's ruling that reservation cannot be obtained in another state with a reservation certificate from the state of residence.
The Supreme Court has upheld the Kerala High Court's order quashing the appointment of B Mohammad Ismail, a native of Karnataka. A bench of Justices Ajay Rastogi and CT Ravikumar said the reservation is determined by the circumstances of each state.
A division bench of the Kerala High Court had issued an order quashing the appointment of B Mohammad Ismail, a native of Karnataka, to the post of Assistant Professor reserved for Muslims in the IT department of Kannur University. The apex court rejected the pleas filed by Kannur University and Mohammad Ismail against the HC order.
