SRINAGAR: A Revenue Department official, a member of Kashmiri Pandit community in Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam district has been shot dead by militants.

He was rushed to a hospital in Srinagar but he died a little while later. Rahul Bhatt, an official of the tehsildar's office in Chadura in central Kashmir was killed.

Kashmir police have confirmed the death. Security forces have started a search operation in the area following the incident.

Former Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed condolences over the incident.
