NEW DELHI: Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has been appointed as the next Chief Election Commissioner. He will assume charge on May 15 after incumbent Sushil Chandra retires onMay 14. He was a 1984 batch IAS officer in the Bihar / Jharkhand cadre. He retired as Union Finance Secretary in February 2020 after 37 years of service. He became the Election Commissioner on September 1, 2020. He was the Chairman of the Public Enterprises Selection Board and a member of the RBI, SBI, NABARD Director, Financial Intelligence Council, Bank Board Bureau, Financial Sector Regulatory Appointment Search Committee and Civil Service Board.
