PULPPALLY: A former Additional Prosecutor committed suicide after bank officials arrived to seize his house and property after he failed to repay a home loan. Irulam native Adv MV Tommy hanged himself yesterday morning. Tommy committed suicide after sending his wife Pushpa to her house. It was Tommy's friends who discovered him hanging in the hall of the house.
Tommy had taken a loan of Rs 12 lakh from the South Indian Bank in Pulpally 10 years ago to build a house on seven cents land. As he was unable to repay money due to Covid and health issues, the amount increased to Rs 30 lakhs, including interest and fines. Bank officials who approached the court arrived at Tommy's home yesterday with a foreclosure notice. After a subsequent discussion that involved the locals, it was agreed to pay Rs 4 lakh on Wednesday and the remaining amount within 10 days. Although Tommy's friends had collected Rs 4 lakh and handed over the money on Wednesday itself, Tommy hanged himself after feeling dejected when a court amin arrived at his house to paste a foreclosure notice, his relatives said.
