THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The health department has asked the people to be extra vigilant against dengue fever as the rains continue in the state. Today is the National Dengue Day. Destruction of mosquitoes' breeding sites is most important in prevention. If you notice any symptoms, avoid self-medication and seek medical attention immediately.
Dengue is transmitted by freshwater Aedes mosquitoes. Aedes mosquitoes bite during the day. Symptoms appear 3 to 14 days after the virus enters the body.
Symptoms of the disease
Sudden onset of high fever
Severe headache
Pain in the muscles and joints behind the eyes
Red patches on chest and face
Nausea and vomiting
Black stool
Sudden shortness of breath
Prevention
Do not allow even a drop of water to stagnate.
Cover water sources completely
Use mosquito repellents
Wear clothes that cover the body
Close windows and doors
Use mosquito nets while sleeping during the day
