The Aam Aadmi Party is at the forefront of giving freebies directly to the people. Upon coming to power, the party thanked the people by reducing the rates of electricity, water and fares. Other parties started noticing the obvious benefit these actions provide to the general public, especially to domestic workers and labourers. Many parties are now being forced to make similar announcements in the states they are ruling. When asked whether the government would be in debt if it continues to give such freebies, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal responded by saying that the government would be able to find money for everything if corruption is put to an end. The AAP has implemented this in Delhi.
The AAP has proved that the crusade against corruption was its priority even when it came to power in Punjab. By expelling Health Minister from the cabinet, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has proved that fight against corruption was not a false promise. Health Minister Vijay Singla has been ousted. The minister was caught demanding a one per cent commission to pass a tender for the purchase of medicines and other equipment worth thousands of crores of rupees for the health department. It is noteworthy that the Chief Minister was able to stop corruption before it started. It usually takes years for such an allegation to be proven through investigation and trial. Usually, political parties will take a stand to protect those who are accused. The evidence against Singla was collected through a covert operation conducted by the Chief Minister himself. The Punjab Chief Minister took action on behalf of the people. Not only did the CM expel the health minister but also took necessary action to arrest him. Through the intervention of the Chief Minister, the AAP government was able to convince the people that no person who gets involved in corruption would remain in the cabinet. Bhagwant Mann, who made it clear that he would not tolerate even the smallest form of corruption, proudly informed the people that he was the soldier of Kejriwal, who had vowed to eradicate corruption.
In 2015, Aam Aadmi Party national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had ousted Food Minister Asim Ahmed from his cabinet on corruption charges.
Indian politics will not be clean without being free of corruption. It is a great relief to the people that the Aam Aadmi Party started the move to make politics corruption-free. If other parties are willing to follow this path, the country will get better very soon.
