THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Employees at the Public Works Department will no longer be able to leave the office premises during duty time after signing at the office. CCTV cameras and biometric punching will be installed in all offices to find out such people.

Initially the scheme will be implemented in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts and will be slowly implemented in other districts in phases. It is hoped that CCTV surveillance will help to monitor the movement and performance of employees and to prevent office-centric corruption and other illegal activities. Camera footage will be monitored at the Chief Office and the Minister's Office. Last week during a sudden inspection at the Kerala Road Fund Board headquarters and project office by Public Works Minister P A Mohammad Riyaz it was found that some of the employees were not at the office or on site. Some do not show up for work and illegally puts signature.

Biometric punching will be available at Roads, Bridges and Building department section offices under the Public Works Department. The installation of the punching machine and the hardware installation work are being completed by Keltron. Every detail of the employees starting from their arrival time will be recorded in the system.
