THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Hints suggest that monsoon in Kerala is likely to get delayed. According to earlier announcements, the monsoon was expected to arrive on May 27. However, it did not reach the state on Friday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier forecasted that the south-west monsoon will hit the Kerala coast on Friday or four days earlier or later.
The south-west monsoon, which is currently in the Andaman Islands, will move further southwest and is likely to reach Arabian Sea soon. The monsoon will arrive in Kerala on time only if the winds gain strength and stability. However, favourable conditions have not developed in the area. Yellow alerts have been withdrawn in several states. However, isolated thundershowers and strong winds are likely in the state. According to reports, monsoon may strengthen in the south-west Arabian Sea, Maldives and Kanyakumari area, in the next 48 hours.
