women-

President Ramnath Kovind pointed out that Kerala is a shining example in removing barriers for women from entering the forefront of society. Inaugurating the conference of women legislators of the country organized by the Kerala Legislative Assembly on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of independence, the President highlighted that Kerala is a model state in harnessing the potential of women in the fields of health, education and employment.

The President reminded that the better participation of women in political processes is conducive to the complete empowerment and enhancement of the quality of society. Although the entry of women into politics has increased, their participation in decision making is still very low. The leadership of most political parties is male-centric. There must be progress on the part of women to overcome this. Women's representation is high only in the presence of reservation in local elections. But when it comes to the legislature, their numbers are ridiculously low. It goes without saying that all parties are stingy in giving tickets to women in the Assembly. When this changes, the upliftment of women will actually be possible.

CPM PB member Vrinda Karat's demand that legislation be enacted against insulting and harassing women MPs is an issue that the government should take seriously. The women MPs who participated in the seminar have announced that they will speak out politically for 33% reservation in Parliament. This is a long-standing need. But none of the mainstream parties has accepted this demand. Gender discrimination in Indian politics will end only when it is achieved together.
