KUNNATHUR: A nine-year-old boy died of rabies after being bitten by a pet dog three months ago. The deceased has been identified as Faizal of Jithin Bhavan, Thekkemuri. Faizal's grandfather Chellappan and grandmother Leela were also bitten by the dog. They were rushed to Trivandrum Medical College Hospital as they showed symptoms. Chellappan is in the intensive care unit.

Faizal was bitten last March while trying to feed his dog. He had a minor injury but did not tell anyone at home due to fear. The next day, while feeding, the grandfather and grandmother were bitten. The dog then ran outside and did not return. None of them got vaccinated after getting bitten.

A week ago, the child was admitted to the Trivandrum Medical College Hospital and was diagnosed with rabies. He was then admitted to the intensive care unit. He died yesterday morning.

Faizal was with his grandparents as his parents were separated. He was buried at his father's hometown Nedumangad. He was a fourth standard student in St Thomas School, Ezham mile.
