THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state is expected to receive 326.2 mm of summer rainfall from March 1 to yesterday, when the state received 645.6 mm of rainfall this year. This 98 percent more rainfall than average. With two days before the end of the summer, if the state gets more rain, it will surpass last year's record of 108 percent. Last year saw the highest summer rainfall in ten years. Summer of 2020 saw the state receive 7% more rainfall, and there was 57 percent less rainfall in 2019. Ernakulam district received the highest amount of summer rainfall this year-118 percent more. No less rainfall was recorded in any of the districts. The reason for the increase in summer rainfall is the increase in the strength of the east wind, increased humidity and the inactivity of the 'La Nina' phenomenon.
Two days to monsoon
The southwest monsoon is expected to arrive in the state in two days, the Met office said. The onset of monsoon is likely to be weak. It is expected to be active in the coming days.
