THRISSUR: A person admitted in Thrissur medical college for fever, died here Sunday. The Department of Health has confirmed that the death was due to West Nile fever. The dead has been identified as Joby, 47 of Asarikode in Puthur. He was admitted in the hospital two days ago. He had symptoms since April 17.
West Nile fever is a disease transmitted from mosquitoes to humans. No vaccine has been found for this. The disease is transmitted from birds to mosquitoes and from mosquitoes to humans. The health department has declared a dry day in Panancherry panchayath where the disease was detected. Health officials led by the district medical officer visited the area. Culex mosquitoes spreading the disease were found in the area. The present conclusion is that the disease has not been transmitted from the dead to anyone. However, all those in the area were subjected to tests. A girl from Kozhikode was also earlier confirmed of the disease.
West Nile fever is a viral fever found in Uganda, an African country, in 1937. The only solution is to avoid mosquito bites. The majority of patients are asymptomatic. The disease is curable for most people as viral fever wanes. However, some people may get meningitis, vomiting, fever, itching, and inflammation of the brain.
