NEW DELHI: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has completed eight consecutive years as Prime Minister, witnessed a huge increase in his popularity. According to survey results, most of the polls conducted since the beginning of the pandemic are in favour of Modi. As per the survey conducted by Local Circle, 67 per cent of the 64,000 respondents have said that the Modi government met their expectations in its second term. Narendra Modi completed eight years as India’s prime minister, last day. He came to power and sworn in as prime minister on May 26, 2014. He won the 2019 elections and continued to remain in power with even more splendor.
The survey results indicate that even amid the rise in unemployment rates and price hike of essential commodities, people’s faith in the government continues to remain intact. In a survey conducted in 2020, during the beginning of Covid in the country, around 62 percent of the respondents opined that they agree with performance and policies of the Modi government. In the latest survey, people have estimated that the government handled the third Covid wave quite effectively.
Meantime, those who took part in the survey also expressed concern over the rising unemployment in the country.
In case of job opportunities, 37 per cent of the people have supported the Modi government. Last year, the figure was only 27 percent. In 2020, 29 per cent of the respondents gave full marks to the government in terms of employment opportunities. A majority of the people who took part in the survey, expressed concern over the inflation rates in the country. In the wake of the upcoming elections in two years, the government is likely to take better decisions in the regard. While 60 per cent believe that the Modi government was able to improve communal harmony in the country, 33 per cent disagree with the government on this issue. Also, more than 50 per cent opined that it is easy to set up businesses in India.
