VENGARA: Police have arrested a 5-member gang which tried to extort Rs 40,000 from a restaurant by claiming that the last piece of the broasted chicken piece they had tasted stale. The arrested have been identified as Ibrahimkutty, Abdul Rahman, Ramees, Sudheesh and Naseem. All the arrested are natives of Vengara. According to the police, the gang had demanded money from the restaurant owner by threatening to lodge a food poisoning case against the restaurant. They had also similarly threatened other restaurant owners in the area. The hotel owners in Vengara then lodged a complaint with the Malappuram district police chief. The accused were then arrested.
