THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Women's Commission said that it would intervene to ensure the safety of women and children coming from other states. The commission's action comes in the wake of the incident where a 15-year-old girl from Tamil Nadu was sexually assaulted by a gang in Poopara, Idukki.

Thousands of migrant workers, including women and children, work in various places in Idukki. The commission said that although employers have been asked to provide the exact details of these migrant workers to the authorities, they have not complied. Shahida Kamal, a member of the Women's Commission, said that the commission would take steps to ensure the safety of women and children and would raise awareness about the issue. More than 200 cases of violence against women and children were reported in the district last year.
