KOCHI: Uma Thomas continues her winning leap in the Thrikkakara by-election with a surprising lead as she enters the final round of counting. She is leading with 22483 votes. Uma Thomas has received 59864 votes so far.
Left candidate Jo Joseph has got 37,381 votes. NDA candidate A N Radhakrishnan got 10753 votes. Jo Joseph has taken the lead in just ten booths so far.
Votes will be counted in the 10th round from the home of Jo Joseph's residence, Palachuvad and Chembumukku area. The CPM is likely to get more votes from Kollamkudimukal, Thengode, Thrikkakara East and Kakkanad. In the 12th round, votes from Mavelipuram area will also be counted.
Even after counting the first three rounds, Uma has obtained twice the lead of P T Thomas in the last election. Uma surpassed P T Thomas's lead of 14,329 votes in 2021. Initially, the votes of the UDF strongholds were first counted.
The UDF is celebrating in many places. There were strong protests against K V Thomas, who left the UDF and campaigned for the Left candidate.
The counting of votes started at 8 am. The counting of votes is taking place in 21 tables. It will take 12 rounds to count all the votes. 21 booths are counted in one round. In the first round, the votes were counted in booths from one to 15 and then in other booths. There will be 21 booths in the first 11 rounds and eight booths in the final round. There are 239 booths.
