LUCKNOW: Violence has erupted in Kanpur in connection with the protests organized by Muslim organizations against controversial remarks made by BJP leader Nupur Sharma against Prophet during a channel discussion. Muslim organizations had called for the closure of shops at the Parade market in Kanpur as part of the protest. However, clashes erupted when many opposed it.

Hundreds of people clashed in the streets. This eventually led to stone-pelting. Two people were injured. The protesters reportedly pelted stones against the police as well. With this, the police lathi-charged. More than a dozen people have been taken into police custody in the incident. Security forces have been heavily deployed in the area to prevent any untoward situation.


Meanwhile, Maharashtra police have registered two cases against Nupur Sharma for allegedly insulting the religious sentiments of the Muslim community during the TV talk show.
