NEW DELHI: In the last 24 hours, 4041 new Covid cases have been reported in the country. This is the highest daily number since March 11 this year. The daily surge in Covid cases comes amid fears that there will be another wave of Covid in the country. It is also noteworthy that the highest number of Covid cases are reported in the states where the restrictions have been completely lifted, including Kerala.
Apart from Kerala, five states in Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have seen an increase in the number of daily Covid cases. According to a letter sent by the Centre to the state governments on June 3, it has been asked to curb the rising number of infections. The Union Ministry of Health has called for "strict monitoring and precautionary measures" to control the spread of Covid.
According to the Ministry of Health, there were 43.17 million patients and 524,651 deaths in the country since the start of the pandemic. But the World Health Organization estimates that the death toll is even higher. Although the daily test positivity rate in India is 0.95%, it is worrying that it is rising daily.
Meanwhile, state health minister Veena George said there is no need to worry though Covid cases are slightly higher in the state. "The Omicron variant is prevalent now. No other variants were found in the tests. It is important to live with Covid. Everyone must wear a mask. Measures should be taken to protect inpatients and the elderly. Those yet to take the second dose of the vaccine and the precautionary dose should take it. Health workers must take the precautionary dose. A very strong awareness campaign should be conducted", the minister said.
The highest number of Covid cases are in Ernakulam, Thiruvananthapuram and Kottayam districts. Those districts need special attention. Those with symptoms should be tested. The progress of vaccination was also discussed. With the decrease in Covid cases, many people are reluctant to take the second dose and the booster dose. It can be dangerous. Effects can be obtained by taking two doses of the vaccine and the booster dose at regular intervals. It is estimated that Covid deaths are more likely to be due to the lack of vaccines and related diseases. People with comorbidities who have symptoms of Covid should do test and seek treatment,
