KOTTAYAM: The state government, which has been raising awareness forty times an hour, 'Wake up, consumer, wake up', has not formed a mediation cell as per the Consumer Amendment Act.
It has been three years since the law was amended to require a mediation cell in each district, including a retired judge and a lawyer. Mediation cells were inaugurated in Thiruvananthapuram, Palakkad, Thrissur and Malappuram districts but no members were appointed. Though the district commissions had suggested that their remuneration should be paid from the interest of Rs 10 crore in the Consumer Welfare Corporation fund, the Civil Supplies Commissioner did not consider it.
The Center had said in 2020 that it would allot Rs 17.5 crore to each district for the construction of the building, but the state didn't show enough interest.
