rain

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rains are likely to get active in south India from June 7 onwards, said the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). Widespread thundershowers are also likely in Kerala for the next five days. According to IMD, isolated heavy rains may lash the state on Sunday and from June 7 till 9.

People have been directed to move to safe buildings on the first sign of lightning. Staying in the open will increase the chance of getting struck by lightning. It is advisable to close windows and doors in case of strong winds and thunderstorms. Do not stand near doors and windows. Sit inside the building and try not to touch the wall or floor as much as possible.

Disconnect all household appliances and avoid the presence of electric equipment. Avoid using telephone during thunder and lightning. However, using mobile phones is not harmful.

If the atmosphere is cloudy, then children should avoid playing in the open air or on the terrace.
