THIRUVANATHAPURAM: The employees’ organizations will launch strikes at the KSRTC headquarters from today in protest against the non-payment of salaries on June 5, as per the earlier agreement. The strikes will be launched without halting any bus service, said the organizations.
The strike has been declared by CITU and TDF, which supports INTUC. The strike in front of the chief office, launched by CITU KSRTC Employees Association, will be inaugurated by CITU state president Anathalavattom Anandan. The strike by TDF will be inaugurated by opposition leader V D Satheesan.
An indefinite dharna by BMS will be held in front of the secretariat and at various district headquarters of the KSRTC. The delay in salary distribution, despite a monthly revenue of Rs 200 crore, is what triggered the organizations to go ahead with strikes. The salary distribution was delayed for about 20 days in the last two months. According to officials, the corporation ran out of collection revenue due to diesel expenses, consortium loan repayments and overdraft repayments of Rs 46 crore taken last month for salary payment.
The corporation has an expenditure of Rs 250 crores, including salary. Although, Rs 65 crores was requested from the government, no confirmation has been received so far. According to the management, the salary distribution will depend on how much money they get from the government. A sum of around Rs 80 crores is required for salary distribution. A maximum of Rs 45 crores can be collected via overdraft. Meanwhile, the strikes launched by pro-government organizations have put the management under severe pressure.
