NEW DELHI: BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has brutally slammed the Narendra Modi government. Taking to Twitter, he said that Bharat Mata had to hang her head in shame during Modi government’s eight years. The leader marked his response amid the row over a BJP leader’s derogatory comments on the Prophet, which has drawn in widespread criticism from across the world. Although a BJP leader, Swamy has lately been a critic of the government and the party.

“During Modi govt's 8 years, Bharat Mata had to hang her head in shame because we crawled before the Chinese on Ladakh, knelt before the Russians, meowed before the Americans in QUAD. But we did shastangam dandawat before the tiny Qatar. That was depravity of our foreign policy”, he tweeted.

Meantime, several countries have expressed protest over the blasphemous comments on Prophet Mohammad made by some BJP leaders. Iran was the last country to summon the Indian envoy to express its stance on the comment row. The Indian ambassador condemned the incident and said that the BJP had already suspended the party members and the derogatory comments do not reflect the views of the government, but are only the views of fringe elements. Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took to Twitter to protest against India in the Prophet remarks controversy.

The Qatar foreign ministry has summoned the Indian ambassador and stated Qatar’s total rejection and condemnation of the remarks. “The state of Qatar calls on the Indian government to immediately condemn these remarks and publicly apologise to all Muslims around the world,” foreign ministry spokesperson Majed Mohammed Al Ansari said. In addition to Qatar, another Gulf country, Oman, has also slammed Nupur Sharma’s statements.

Meanwhile, Saudi has welcomed BJP’s decision suspending Nupur Sharma, BJP national spokesperson, who had made the controversial comments on the Prophet. As her remarks stoked a controversy, Saudi Arabia's foreign ministry, led by Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud, had come forward in criticism of the derogatory remarks.

Nupur Sharma made the controversial statement against Islamic symbols during a channel discussion on Gyanvapi Mosque dispute. She said that the Muslims were mocking Hindu faith by calling the Shivling, a fountain. As the incident sparked controversy, violence erupted in certain places. The police have registered cases against Sharma in Hyderabad, Pune and Mumbai on grounds of hurting religious sentiments.
