KASARGOD: An order has been issued to grant five cents of land to Gopalan-Sharada couple who were struggling without a house along with their Endosulfan suffered 31-year old son Uddesh Kumar. The son has broken bones and sustains only on water.
The family, who do not own a house or a cent of land, lives in Gopalan's mother's house. It has been seven years since they applied to the Collector for a three-cent plot of land somewhere in Chengala, Bela and Koodalu areas near the city of Kasaragod. But their request was not considered by the officials. Also, they were given pattayam of three cents of land 57 km away from where they stayed. But the officials did not showed the land or measured it. They asked for land nearby as they had difficulties in staying with their son at a far away place. Kerala Kaumudi had published an article on Monday about their plight.
The news came to the attention of Revenue Minister K Rajan and he immediately called Kasargod ADMA K Ramendran and instructed him to provide land to them in a nearby area. Kasargod Village Officer Anand M. Sebastian and Village Assistant Anas visited Uddesh Kumar's house and inquired about the situation. In the evening, an order was issued allotting five cents of land suitable for housing in Nekraje-Paddy Group Village in Kasargod Taluk. The land allotted is only 10 km away from where Uddesh Kumar's family now lives. The action was taken as an immediate response to Kerala Kaumudi article.
