KOLKATA: A man chopped off his wife’s hand to stop her from joining a government job. The incident happened in East Burdwan’s Ketugram of Kolkata. Sher Mohammad chopped off the hands of his wife Renu Khatun.

Renu, who was undergoing nursing training at a private hospital in Durgapur got the government job recently. Sher Mohammad has no government job. He was jealous of his wife. He also feared that his wife would leave him after getting the government job.

Renu stood firm in her decision of joining the government service even after he insisted her not to accept the job. There were constant fights over this. He finally chopped off her hand in a fit of rage. He himself took his wife to the hospital leaving the severed palm at home. The move was to prevent doctors from attaching it. He and his family are absconding.
