THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Police is all set to provide arms training to the general public. The training will be first given to those who possess a gun license and have applied for it. A fee should be paid for the training. A special committee and syllabus have been fixed for this. State police chief Anil Kant also issued an order in this regard.
Only police personnel in the state will receive arms training presently. The arms training is being taught in various battalions of the police and at the Thrissur Police Academy.
A training fee from Rs 1000 to Rs 5000 will be charged from the public. A fee of Rs 1000 will have to be paid to understand and get acquainted with the arms. Meantime, fee may increase for things like training for firing. Training will be given in different battalions.
There are rifle clubs in many parts of the state. Training for firing could be attained from there but cannot use bullets. Instead pellets used in air gun can be used for this.
Some had approached the high court saying that there was a situation in the state where even the licensees were not trained on how to use the weapon and a solution is needed for this. Following this, the high court directed the police. The DGP then examined the matter in detail and issued an order.
Arms training can be obtained only by presenting a police clearance certificate, health certificate, Aadhaar documents and weapons license.
