KOZHIKODE: A youth, who broke into his own house in Mavoor and looted gold ornaments and Rs 50,000, was arrested. The theft took place at the house of Poonathil Prakashan. The police have arrested Prakashan’s son Sineesh in connection with the incident.

The theft happened on Friday, while no one was in the house. The accused had tried to mislead the family that the theft was committed by an outsider. He had stolen a sum of Rs 50,000 in two attempts.

The accused entered the house by breaking the grill gate in the backside. He had worn 10-inched shoes and smeared chili powder on the floor. He had also worn paper covers on his hands to prevent leaving fingerprints. When the family came back, they found that the money and gold was missing. Following which, they lodged a complaint with the police.

Sineesh was in debt. He had stolen Rs 30,000, kept in the cupboard by his father, last week. He went on to commit the movie-style theft on finding out that his father had not realized that the money was gone.

Sineesh’s father and mother had gone to work on Friday. He dropped his wife at her mother’s house and then came back and stole the money. He has showed the police the stolen money and the hacksaw blade he used to break the lock
