THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday said that the recent revelation made by Swapna Suresh was part of a political agenda. He also said that there was a conspiracy behind the allegation against him. The CM was responding to Swapna Suresh's allegation that he and his family had smuggled currency in a bag.

"This is an attempt to undermine the will of the government. There is no truth in the allegation. Once again lies are being spread in front of the people," the CM said.

"It was the state government that first demanded a coordinated and effective investigation into the gold smuggling case. The government had also pointed out legitimate concerns about subsequent investigative methods in a timely manner. We are of the view that there should be no compromise on the investigation into the economic crimes that are wreaking havoc on the country's economy. However, some people repeatedly raised baseless allegations against us through the media due to narrow political reasons. After a break, these people are once again making the accused in the case say the same old things," he said.

The Chief Minister said in a statement that the people would recognize and reject baseless propaganda aimed at defaming the government.
