THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition leader VD Satheesan has demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister in the wake of the shocking revelations made by Swapna Suresh, the accused in the gold smuggling case. He also said that a court-monitored investigation should be carried out in view of the latest revelation of Swapna.
"The statement given by Swapna to the Customs and the statement she gave in the court under section 164 are the same. The probe by the central agencies came to a halt after she gave a statement to Customs. The probe went nowhere as part of the CPM-BJP nexus. The Chief Minister should respond in this regard. The explanation given by the party secretary is not enough. It is now clear that the issues raised by the UDF were correct," Satheesan said.
CM should resign: K Sudhakaran
KPCC president K Sudhakaran also demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister in the wake of the latest revelation made by Swapna Suresh. "The investigation into the gold smuggling case would be transparent only if the court monitors the investigation. People have lost faith in the central agencies’ probe into the case. It is a shame to democracy that a CM, who is facing the allegation that he smuggled gold in a biriyani vessel, is continuing in power. The CM should resign and face the probe if he has self-esteem," he said.
Congress to observe black day on Wednesday
KPCC general secretary TU Radhakrishnan said that Congress workers led by Congress mandalam committees would stage demonstrations and observe a black day on Wednesday demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the wake of the revelations made by Swapna Suresh.
People had already rejected fabricated story: Kodiyeri
Meanwhile, CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Tuesday rubbished the allegations raised against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. He said that the people of Kerala had already rejected the fabricated story presented by Swapna as her new revelation. "Same arguments were raised during the time of the local body elections as well as the assembly elections. Such fake stories are being circulated as part of political agenda," Kodiyeri said.
