THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM state secretariat has said that the new revelations made by Swapna Suresh, the prime accused in the gold smuggling case, were part of a political conspiracy. The CPM said in a statement that the lies, which had been circulating for months using central agencies and some media outlets for political gain, were now being spread in the name of Swapna Suresh's confidential statements.

"The BJP government is implementing a nationwide system of using central agencies for political purposes. As a result, a situation arose in Kerala where the investigation into gold smuggling headed in the wrong direction. This move to insult the CM is a challenge to the people. Attempts are being made to spread blatant lies once again. This will be despised by the Kerala society," the CPM said in the statement.

"The state government had taken a stand in the first instance to properly investigate the gold smuggling. That is why it asked the Centre to appoint central agencies to conduct a probe into the matter. When such investigations led to some BJP leaders, some persons devised new scripts and disseminated them in the media," the CPM added.
