KOTTAYAM: The Kochi Income Tax Joint Commissioner Jyothis Mohan proudly says that his father owns a tea-shop. Jyothis joined the Revenue service in 2010 after passing the civil service exam by writing in Malayalam.
Jyothis's father Mohan is popular among the locals. When Jyothis went for coaching, the family's only source of income was through dairy farming. It stopped when Mohan became ill. The shop is named 'Aparna Stores'. Mohan is busy from afternoon onwards preparing snacks and doing other jobs in the shop. From evening almost 200 people visits the shop, having discussions about politics while drinking tea.
Mohan, a former communist, is now in the BJP due to his admiration for PM Modi. His wife Minerva is also in BJP and was a former panchayat president. Although his son is a top official, Mohan didn't quit his job. Not only bureaucrats but also several film stars like Unni Mukundan and Asif Ali has also visited the shop.
