KOCHI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Customs will investigate the latest revelation of Swapna Suresh in the diplomatic gold smuggling case. The ED will file an application in the Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court today for a copy of the statement. The inquiry will be carried out by evaluating the statement given by Swapna and what she said to the media outside.

The ED is in the final stages of preparing a charge sheet in the gold smuggling case. The information in the new revelation will be added to the charge sheet.

The ED had questioned Swapna on November 11, 2021. Although Swapna was summoned on February 14 for questioning over allegations that she was pressured to tell the name of the chief minister to the probe team, she was soon released without questioning after she complained of health issues. She did not show up for questioning after that. Customs, which has filed a charge sheet in the gold smuggling case, is also taking the new revelation seriously. Swapna had alleged that gold was smuggled using in a biryani vessel. This can be investigated by Customs.

Consulate
