THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State government will submit a report to Central government in which the minimum one-km distance from demarcated boundaries will be changed to zero to one kilometre to maintain human settlements near protected areas. The move is to take the report to the Supreme Court through the central government. The SC order states that every protected forest, national park and wildlife sanctuary across the country should have a mandatory eco-sensitive zone (ESZ) of minimum one-km starting from their demarcated boundaries. The state governments can express their views to the court.

The draft report prepared earlier by Kerala for submission to the Central Government will be revised on the basis of the court order.
