NEW DELHI: E T Muhammed Basheer MP, who came to visit the injured in the Kanpur violence, was detained by the Uttar Pradesh police. Violence had erupted in Kanpur following suspended BJP national spokesperson Nupur Sharma’s derogatory remarks against the Prophet. In the wake of the incident, Muhammed Basheer arrived in Uttar Pradesh to visit the victims. Soon after being detained by the police, he returned to Delhi. The police said that the leader could not allowed entry as it was a conflict zone.

Muhammed Basheer said that he will meet the media at 11 am in connection with the incident. The Sangh-controlled governments should stop their witch hunting of minorities. Fascism has tightened its grip on our nation to such an extent that its victims aren't even allowed to be consoled anymore. We must all raise our voices against it, E T wrote on social media.
