THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Two people have beentrapped underground following a mudslide near an apartment under construction in Panavila. The incident took place near Thycaud Model School. Three people have sustained injuries. Out of them, one person has been rescued and admitted to a hospital. The victim, identified as Deepak Barmman (23), a native of West Bengal, is undergoing treatment at Thiruvananthapuram General Hospital. He has not suffered severe injuries.
The mudslide occurred in an area, where migrant labourers had been staying, as the mound adjoining a sidewall near to the kitchen collapsed. The workers, who were cooking in the kitchen, met with the accident. The incident took place at around 10 am on Saturday. One of the person stranded in the area is half-covered in mud. Rescue operations are underway to save the worker.
Meanwhile, the top layer of the mound above the fire brigade, is likely to collapse at any time. Reports suggest that the situation is dangerous for the firefighters carrying out the rescue operation.
