THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A recommendation to change the uniform of male and female prisoners in prisons in the state to bermuda and t-shirt instead of dhoti and churidar instead of sari has been has been rejected. It is due to the disgreement of inmates and the financial liability of the government. The recommendation to change uniforms was raised when Rishiraj Singh was the Jail DGP as part of security measures. Two inmates escaped from the Attakkulangara Women's Prison by tying sarees together and then jumping off a wall, while in several prisons the accused were found hanging using dhoti.

New uniforms create financial difficulties to Jail department. There is also the opinion that changing uniforms is a not a solution for prisons security.
