THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: SFI state secretary P M Arsho was arrested by the police in connection with the case of thrashing, Nizam, an Erattupetta native, in 2018. Arsho, who was produced before the magistrate, has been remanded for 14 days. The high court had earlier cancelled the SFI leader’s bail for the case registered in Kochi North station.

The high court had also sought an explanation from the Kochi police for not arresting Arsho, an accused in several cases. Arsho’s bail was revoked as he was convicted in various cases, even after being released on bail.

The police did not arrest Arsho, who was declared a fugitive, even when he took part in several public events including the SFI state conference. Youth Congress state secretary P Y Shajahan had lodged a complaint with the DGP pointing out that the accused, who could not be traced by the police, had attended the SFI conference in Malappuram.

The high court had cancelled Arsho’s bail on February 28. Even after being granted bail, he was convicted in several other cases. Following which, a bench led by Justice Sunil Thomas revoked his bail on grounds that he had violated bail conditions. P M Arsho, who had been an Ernakulam district office-bearer, was elected as the state secretary at the state conference in Perinthalmanna. He was considered to the post of secretary as the age limit criteria of 25 years was tightened this year.

Arsho is also an accused in a case, in connection with the incident in which AISF woman leader Nimisha was thrashed by SFI activists, during the MG University elections.
